Both halves of the job, one person. I come up with the concept for a brand space and then draw, detail and engineer it myself, so the workshop can build it and you know what it costs before it is made.
Concept, 3D sketches and 2D technical drawings on one side, cost, materials, joints and transport sizes on the other. That gap is where spatial brand work usually falls apart.
A wink in the idea, but millimetres in the execution. It has to make you look twice, and it still has to fit through the door.
Concept, drawing and build, per project.
Creative enough to come up with it, technical enough to get it built.
I’m Milan. I started out as a designer, but I wanted to understand better how things are actually put together: which panel, which joint, what it weighs and how it gets through the door.
I can present a concept in the morning and walk the build with the installers that afternoon. Nothing gets lost in translation, because there is no translation.
I have run two companies of my own, so I know what a drawing costs once it reaches the workshop.
I am looking for a team that wants both from one person: the idea, and the drawing that makes it real.
Design, 3D and technical detailing of brand presentations, retail displays and activations for beauty and fashion brands, from concept through to on-site delivery.
Projects: de Bijenkorf · Chanel · KNVB · Nike · residential interiors.
A cupboard brand built on a system of my own: made-to-measure cabinets that click together without tools. Customers set the dimensions, the layout and the finish themselves, and the cupboard arrives at their door as a ready-to-build kit. Tape measure, screwdriver and spirit level and off you go.
Running the workshop floor and drawing bespoke kitchens for production. Six months in, this is where Kastmakers started: the same craft, but rebuilt as a system anyone could assemble at home.
Interior concepts and technical drawings for bespoke fit-outs, from first sketch to the joiner’s bench.
My own design and furniture studio. “An interior should feel comfortable and natural, and never get in the way of how the space works. That feeling of everything falling into place when you walk in, that is what I am after.”
Projects: FOAM Amsterdam · Centraal Museum Utrecht · Universal Beauty/Nails Amsterdam · Grote Kerk Naarden · Hosokawa Amsterdam · Zuid-Kennemerland Library Haarlem · InFashion Utrecht.
Precise retail execution: accurate planograms, fixture guidelines and 3D store models for international rollouts.
Projects: Zeeman · Hugo Boss · Vans · de Bijenkorf.
This is where I learned to think freely: to let an idea run first and only then ask how it gets made.
Where my fascination with objects began: materials, construction and how a thing is actually put together.
